Covenants- Obedience and Rebellion
In my last post, I discussed the nature of a Covenant itself.
What it is: A specific form of relationship
How God relates to us through covenant: He initiates, we respond.
What voids a covenant: Death
What blessing means: being in right relationship with YHWH
I ended the post claiming the purpose of God to bless the nations was achieved through Israel whether it was obedient or rebellious. The nature of their participation in God’s world mission was up to them. That assertion is the focus of this post. Read more »
Covenants-What are They?
Many people understand a covenant as similar to a modern-day contractual relationship: I do this, you do this and if one of us doesn’t perform our duties, then the contract is broken and we walk our separate ways, thus ending the relationship.

Moses Was a Fake!
In the spirit of our Seminarian Wager, I thought I would discuss a theory of the composition of the Old Testament that may challenge both our faith and our doubts. This particular challenge will compare the narratives of Moses, as well as a man named Sargon. Most of you are familiar with the Biblical character Moses, but I am guessing that most of you (like myself) were previously unfamiliar with Sargon.
When reading these stories side by side, one notices extraordinary similarities. Both Sargon and Moses were born and hidden, placed on a river in a basket sealed with pitch, discovered and raised by another, rising to greatness, etc. Read more »
God in Your Story
In my last post, The Truth of the Gospel, I shared my story of being saved from suicide and subsequently coming to faith. I also talked about how when I became a Christian, I realized that God was with me even in those horrible circumstances. I realize that many people share stories similar to my own, and many have stories of far worse things happening to them. It is very tempting to ask, either during or after, where God was in those times. While it may seem as though God abandoned you to be raped, beaten, neglected, depressed, empty, etc and chose to love others by blessing them with talent, good looks, money, opportunity, intelligence, friends etc, there is another question that my personal experience has lent me to ask:
Why wasn’t it worse?
Why wasn’t I molested?
Why wasn’t I cut on?
Left in a ditch for my parents to discover?
I said before that my still being alive is evidence of God’s work in my life, and it is, but all the evil things that didn’t happen to me are further evidence. Read more »
