Ode to Nea Nea

As you have no doubt noticed, the semester has been very busy for us here at COAS, and posts have been short as of late.  We are also adjusting to a few staff changes, and reconsidering how we are living out our vision for this website.

But that’s no excuse either. Recently, my grandmother-in-law emailed my wife to inform me that she is “waiting for another blog post.”  Honestly, I forget that she even reads this blog and am so focused on the readers who comment that I forget that for ever person who does, there are probably 5-10 who read without commenting.  Well, a few days later, she asked Hannah on the phone if I was planning on putting a new post up on the site anytime soon, and that she is quickly running out of “reading material.”  Read more »

(crickets)

Hey everyone…  The last couple weeks have been insanely busy for COAS.  The one downside of having a blog staffed exclusively of people with the same schedule is that when one of us is busy, we are all busy.  The new semester has officially commenced and we are swamped.  Once our schedule irons out and we get a handle on the workload, you can expect business as normal.  To wet your appetite, here are a few things you can look forward to in the coming weeks….

  • Guest author Matt Blazer will be writing a review of the God on Trial Debate last week.  Matt had the massive opportunity to hang out and share a few drinks with Christopher Hitchens and Dinesh D’Souza after the debate.
  • I am (still) working on the next iteration in the series “Towards a Biblical Masculinity,” and should have it in shortly.
  • We will be starting a new series called “Profile of a Christian Artist,” where we will have the opportunity to interview various artists about their craft, their faith, and how each of these interact in such a culturally rich profession.  This will include musicians, painters, and everything in between.

Last Chance!

Tomorrow night is the God on Trial Debate that I mentioned a couple weeks back.  If you are interested in coming, please use the “Contact Us” form in the top right corner of the blog ASAP.  My wife and I will be there helping out with the book signing, so holla if you see me.

Oh yeah, and did I mention that we will be hanging out with Hitchens and D’Souza for a little while afterwards?  No?  Well, we are.  :-)

God on Trial Debate

Attention St. Louisans!

On Wednesday September 10th at 7PM, Fixed Foundation will be hosting “God on Trial,” a debate between Christian Dinesh D’Souza and Atheist Christopher Hitchens at Powell Symphony Hall.

Dinesh D’Souza is a noted writer and speaker on conservative politics as well as Christian apologetics. Born in Mumbai, India, he graduated from Dartmouth College and served as a policy analyst for the Reagan administration. D’Souza is also the author of several bestselling books.

Christopher Hitchens is a political observer, journalist, and literary critic. A British-American and antitheist, he was educated at Cambridge and Oxford and has been a columnist for Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, and The Nation, among others. “God on Trial” will pit Hitchens’ views as expressed in his best-seller God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything - against Christianity. D’Souza will defend the significance and uniqueness of the Christian faith, drawing arguments from his latest best-seller, What’s So Great About Christianity. }

A few of us at COAS are planning on going, and if you are in the area and would like to check it out with us (Christian, Atheist, or otherwise), head on over to the “Contact Us” page and let us know!  We’d love to meet you personally and maybe grab a drink afterwards.  It is sure to be entertaining!  Things like this don’t pop up everyday, and especially not in St. Louis!

      THE SEMINARIAN WAGER

Everyone has faith. Regardless of how our faith developed, we should be willing to critically analyze those beliefs. While analyzing the validity of our faith, we should also be willing to analyze the validity of our doubts and cultural preconditions. If we are willing to do this, we wager that over time, the roots of our faith will strengthen toward truth, and will not be uprooted during challenging times. This site aims to provide worthwhile discussion regarding a critical evaluation of both religious belief and modern doubts.
