Unborn child

This is quite a sobering and sad testimony from the UK about women who undergo multiple abortions for the purpose of contraception.

According to a government statistics cited by the article, the number of women seeking more than one abortion is climbing. Approximately 1,300 women in the UK had their fifth abortion last year.

This, on top of another recent report from the UK’s Royal College of Psychiatrists, warning about the increased possibility of mental illness associated with abortion.

Is there any reason to believe this is much different in America?

Numerous faith-based ministries and pregnancy resource centers work to counsel women who feel trapped in their situations, and consider abortion to be the only way out. While there will always be folks who give the entire pro-life movement a bad rap (and they always somehow seem to be easy finds for the media), they are the minority compared to the folks quietly doing the blessed work of counseling women and providing help.

And there are encouraging stories out there as well, such as this one about a mother who’s delighted her child survived an attempted abortion.

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” -Psalm 139:13

Who am I?

One star-gazing night in my convertible last summer, I found myself with a heart-broken gal-pal, a box of Kleenex, and a carton of cookie-dough ice cream.  What’s a girl to do?  One of the most friendship-boosting activities is to sit with each other during a time of need.  Everyone needs a smile, a hug, a listening ear, and at times, a shoulder to cry on.  No one wants to feel alone during a time of hurt, especially after an abrupt change or a loss in relationship.

Every girl knows that after such a time, a new chapter must begin.  Girls entertain certain rituals to set into motion a new beginning.  Sometimes it is a haircut, cleaning out her car, rearranging her furniture, or completely changing up her Facebook profile.  A new day calls for new pictures, new interests, and a new you!

Sometimes I wish that Chuck Norris were my dad…

chuck_norris.jpg

…that anytime a boy wanted to take me out, he would have to come face to face with fear itself. I was reading my Chuck Norris Facts this week and I learned that Chuck Norris doesn’t need to breathe because air hides in his lungs for protection. When I think about “guarding my heart,” a mountainous task that intimidates and frightens me, I wish I could summon the big guys, call for backup, and just all around break out some Chuck Norris on the guys that come showing up red on the radar of my heart.

Fortunately, even though I cannot call on Chuck Norris as my personal “heart-guard,” I have learned over time that I am not left alone to fend for myself in these tender matters. That is great comfort to me as I grow in love.

Yet still I ponder: what does it mean to “guard your heart”? Anytime I even THINK about dating or even think about just talking to a guy, people constantly remind me to “guard my heart.” But what exactly does that mean?
