Republished!
The guys and gals over at commentary/journalistic/everything blog Open For Business (they’re kinda hard to categorize) requested the rights to republish my recent post on Politics and Theology. They put it up yesterday, with just over a week till voting day Novemeber 4th. Check it out!
Thanks to everyone at OFB!
*Update*
OFB recently made an official endorsement of a presidential candidate. Confessions of a Seminarian is staunchly neutral and does not endorse any candidate. The ONLY endorsement we make is responsible and informed voting. For the record, I (Brad) am still undecided and will share my vote only with my wife. Who our next president will be is extremely important and I do not mean to minimize it at all, but Who our Hope will be is infinitely more significant.
Worldwide Classroom
One of the things I’ve enjoyed about this blog is the thirst for learning exhibited by our visitors. We’ve tried insanely hard to articulate our views thoroughly and concisely (a very good learning and honing experience!). But some of these topics are just too big to cover all in one place. Thus, I would like to HIGHLY recommend checking out Covenant Worldwide:
The mission of Covenant Seminary’s Worldwide Classroom is to provide God’s people with ready access to grace-centered, high-quality theological training by minimizing the barriers of distance, cost, and language. This mission recognizes the Seminary’s part in stewarding the resources of theological education to the church, which is growing most rapidly in areas of the world where ministry training is often least available.
To this end, Worldwide Classroom offers free downloads of courseware (audio lectures and transcripts) and study guide materials for more than 20 of Covenant Seminary’s master-level seminary courses.
Check out any of the links, or go here to listen to FREE online courses offered by Covenant. Also included in those courses are transcripts, notes, and study guides. They are incredibly thorough.
Our hope is 2-fold… 1.) That for those of you with different theological/philosophical perspectives will better understand where we are coming from… and 2.) We would continue in our mission to provide edifying resources for exploration and education to all who are interested.
Enjoy!
A Political Theology v. A Theology of Politics
We’re now only 3 weeks away from the presidential election here in the U.S., and the frenzy is earnest. This is my first presidential election as a Christian (and Seminarian!) so I’ve been contemplating it almost daily.
In this journey of wrestling on how to be a responsible citizen as a Christian and future pastor, I’ve noticed an alarming blend of politics and theology. I firmly believe that our theology should inform our politics. This can take any number of forms (particularly with our insane two-party system). Christians can be democrats, republicans, independent, or whatever. Almost any political stance overlaps with Christian theology.
However, I find myself absolutely furious to see an over-identification of politics with the Christian church. Read more »
Resurgence UFC Ministry
This. Is. Awesome. The guys over at Resurgence are starting a new series on Ultimate Fighting (UFC)/Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Their purpose is to inform, educate, and familiarize readers with this growing phenomenom and also bring in some spiritually relevant application like 1 Timothy 1:18.
This is amazing. This is the kind of masculine-relevant stuff that just trips my trigger. It is definitely helpful in motivating me to finish part 2 of my own series (coming soon). Check out this video of UFC Fighter giving some tips on how to close the distance in a fight.
