What Do You Want?

pouting.jpg

Well, we here at COAS have written on several different topics that have all generated some good discussion.  I guess at this point since several of us are wrapping up on-going series, we are curious what topics regarding Christianity you all want to hear.  What questions most vex you?  What ways do you most appreciate seeing your questions answered (biblical, theological, philosophical, personal, historical, etc.)?  Keep in mind that you dont have to just pick one, you can ask as many questions and enjoy being responded to in as many ways as possible.  We just want to make sure that we are sensitive to the issues people are dealing with.

  1. “…senstive to the issues that people are dealing with.”

    Hmm.

See “Drowning the Forgiven” on my site.

After 15 years, I had enough.

  2. I think there are a lot of issues in the church and it’s theology that need to be discussed in some depth - since doctrine does effect the way one builds their faith paradigms/value systems.

I think a good exercise would be going through a denominations statement of faith (articles of faith) - one by one - and see where the road takes us. I can say honestly I don’t agree with a single statement of faith in structured Christianity - and I have questions from A to Z concerning them and what they deem ‘important’. It’s something I would find fun to do.

  3. 1) a not-too-heady explanation of the first council of Nicaea and how that affects your holy scripture

    2) would someone PLEASE tackle gay marriage? I’m not saying a stance must be taken, but you lot are the most approachable, reasonable Christians I know, and I would really like to hear not a hot button debate, but an even, contemporary approach to this often inflated issue.

    3) I liked Brad’s post about music. could we get something else about art? could be painting, sculpture, photography, dance, whatever. This is very interesting to me.

    4) on the philosophical/personal side, an explanation of how you are a part of a religion making a “Truth claim” (your words, I think) and somehow respect and appreciate other religions that don’t align with your truth claim.

    5) a new exploration of missional living? I liked when that was explored a while ago, and while I am aware that this whole blog experience is sort of missional, I’d like to see something getting back into that discussion.

    6) Something more personal from someone besides Jen and Josh (no offense meant). Would be cool to get to know the other writers a little more.

    There you have it.

  4. Some great suggestions! We are always open to more, but this is a great place to start.

  5. societyvs,

LOVE that idea. We’ll figure something out…

    Kyle,

I just finished a post on #5, and it’s being reviewed and edited now. It’s on the way.

And I’d love to take up #2… It’s something I honestly have been interested in examining more closely, but have just not done so as of yet… Give me a little time, but I’ll work on it….

  6. I have an idea…

Why don’t y’all quit commenting over at de-Conversion and start writing something new!! You’re killing us out here - waiting for something good to talk about… ;)

  7. True, true. Sorry to leave you hanging, but we certainly appreciate your support! There are some cool things in store for our blog in the coming month or so, and while I dont want to spoil them, they will be worth the wait. We have a couple articles coming up too, so stay tuned:)

Hahahaha…. Michelle, you just made my day! Seriously….

We have a ton of material on the way VERY soon…

  9. Hi all,

Over at De-Conversion hughvic tossed out the term “fideism” on the post http://de-conversion.com/2008/03/14/what-if-i-behaved-towards-christians-like-they-behave-toward-me/

What do you think about addressing this concept, especially the Kierkegaardian variety? I’m selfish. I’m doing it for my own benefit. I’m hanging onto faith by shreds sometimes and fideism or the idea that faith can never be reached by means of reason seems like something I can live with. I know it may seem obvious to some that that’s true, but to those of us who overthink….. well….you get the idea.

  10. Just wanted to stop by and let you know that I revised “Drowning the Forgiven.”
