Politics and Religion: Is there a “Christian” Party?
As the Potomac Primaries are winding down tonight, it raises some questions regarding the assumptions about religion with regard to politics. In this article by CNN it is clear that Huckabee is hoping to draw support from the evangelical Christian base in his bid for the Republican nomination. My question is, what are the assumptions about Christianity based upon this statement? Read more »
“Masculine” Discussions Around the Wire
Our good friend Duncan McFadzean over at “What’s Your Point Caller?” stopped by to comment on my review of David Murrow’s “Why Men Hate Going To Church” and has linked it for some even further discussion in a post entitled “Where have all the real men gone?” Normally, I wouldn’t link to a discussion that linked to one of our discussions (kind of redundant, isn’t it?), but some of the points and questions being brought up are REALLY good and very different from the pages of comments we received on the initial post. I highly recommend it! Thanks Duncan!
Also, another good friend, Anthony Bradley wrote a post called “One of the Many Ways To Escort Men Out of Evangelical Churches In America” concerning music and masculine spirituality on his blog at the Institute. Why does South Park make some of the best points about the lackings of the church? Warning: If you are easily offended… it may be better that you don’t read it. ![]()
The New Testament In Five and Half Minutes
This video is my attempt at capturing the flavor of the New Testament in a short video. I will obviously have to skip over some things, but in many ways this will likely be a controversial video because there are probably many ideas as to what the main point of the New Testament is. Feel free to leave any comments, questions and discrepancies here and we can dialog further on the issue. Also, I go so quickly that I may not have articulated my point as well as if I had, say, 20 minutes. So if any clarification needs to be given, let me know.
Kirkwood Chaos
As some of you may have seen on the news, Kirkwood, MO is dealing with the aftermath of some brutal murders last night at the City Hall. My wife and I live a few blocks from there, and the other contributors on this blog also live in the general area. Kirkwood has had a really rough time in the last few years, with another officer killed in the line of duty, and the Michael Devlin case just a year ago. The community is still in shock.
Here is the story of what happened last night.
Please keep our community in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days, and that the church would be in a position to show the love of Christ to a community in grief.
