“Rise Inside”

I thought I’d do something a little different for my post this week. Instead of the usual intellectual musings, I am going to engage my right brain and post some lyrics I wrote mostly about a year and half ago. I say “mostly” because they were largely unfinished until a few weeks ago, when I finally put that last touch on them and am satisfied with them enough to declare them “finished.” Ironically, they are even more relevant and true for me today than they were back then. Let me know what you think!

Rise Inside

A screech, a lie, an ended life.
She reels, you sigh, he needs his wife.

Of war and strife, we never rest
God hears our cries, and we are blessed.

A break, a tear, we all hold dear
The faith, the hope, the love that’s near.

Of war and strife, we never rest
God hears our cries, and we are blessed.

The older we grow, the sorrows we know,
Rise inside.
The harder we fall, the praises we call,
Rise inside.

She falls, into me, her tears come fast.
I call, to you, I’m at my last.

Of war and strife, we never rest
God hears our cries, and we are blessed.

The older we grow, the sorrows we know,
Rise inside.
The harder we fall, the praises we call,
Rise inside.

      THE SEMINARIAN WAGER

Everyone has faith. Regardless of how our faith developed, we should be willing to critically analyze those beliefs. While analyzing the validity of our faith, we should also be willing to analyze the validity of our doubts and cultural preconditions. If we are willing to do this, we wager that over time, the roots of our faith will strengthen toward truth, and will not be uprooted during challenging times. This site aims to provide worthwhile discussion regarding a critical evaluation of both religious belief and modern doubts.
