What Did You Say?
[youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y2pTzkoGgwU]
This video looks at how we read the bible. Do you approach the bible as something that you use to justify what you believe, or do you believe based on what the bible says? It is a fundamental question that sometimes we dont ask, but consider it as you watch this video.

Nice video. Did one of you guys at semiarianblog make this?
I agree that it is important to understand the bible with the author’s original intention. Now the problem is, how do you determine that intention?
One of the things that I have discovered upon leaving Christianity is that we are notorious for using the Bible to justify our creeds and beliefs. If something gets in the way of our creeds, the Bible must be interpreted such that it fits our creeds.
HIS,
“how do you determine that intention?”
That is the million dollar question. I hope to address it in future videos (which also answers your first question, I did this video). Next week I am gonna look at really hard parts of scripture (conceptually and maybe specificially) and how to understand them with our best effort at listening to the author. I will probably do at least one video that walks through a specific example, but that wont be the next video. While I am still planning it out, did you have any suggestions for a text you would like to hear me go over? I was actually thinking about hitting on the Tower of Babel story, kinda connecting to your article on it (which I really enjoyed by the way). Let me know your thoughts.
P.S. Suggestions for crazy Christian passages to go through are open to anyone!
Noah’s Ark always sounded crazy to me. Also, feeding thousands of people with only five loaves of bread and two fish.
